Karthus – 3 Steps to Going Godlike with 900+ AP

Kathus is an interesting hero type. I have played him extensively and have come to the conclusion that he is one of if not the BEST AP champion out. I am going to explain in this guide how I absolutely own with Karthus.

This will be a series guide. The first post in the series will explain how I set my summoner up to play Karthus. The second will explain how I itemize for Karthus and his early game. The last post in the series will show Karthus’s late game and how it is possible to become not just disliked, but FEARED on the battlefield.

So lets get to it.

1st Karthus is an Ability Power Champion. Every aspect of his build should cater to to this. For my masteries I go a 2/7/21 build.

I use 7 in Defense to get the health regeneration increase offered by Strength of Spirit. Karthus can easily hit 3k mana. With Strength of Spirit he will have almost 100 hp/regen per 5. You will never have to fountain for health with that.

The 21 in utility is required to increase Karthus’ survivability. He does not have a solid escape, so improved movement speed/decreased flash and ghost cooldowns help him not get ganked.

For my runes I try to maximize Karthus’s killing power. He relys on spamming spells in order to maximize his damage. So for yellow and blue runes we will use mana regen. To increase the effectiveness of his spells we will use magic pen red marks. To buff his survivability a bit we will use health quintessence.
