How To Dominate With Lux and Win Games

Lux How To Dominate With Lux and Win Games

Lux: The Laser Woman

Hey guys, this guide has been carefully crafted people who want to absolutely dominate as Lux and win a majority of the game played with her. Lux is an extremely strong hero killer, harrasser, and support champion that can be very hard to focus and kill. Her extreme range and high damage demoralizes her opponents and provides for some funny kills.

In this guide I will explain what I did to obtain the record described in the screenshot above.

Skills:

Passive: Illumination

Lux’s damaging spells charge the target with energy for 6 seconds. Lux’s next attack ignites the energy, dealing 20-190 (depending on Lux’s level) magic damage to the target.

Light Binding

Fires a ball of light towards a target location, binding and damaging up to 2 enemy units. The first target takes 60/110/160/210/260 (+0.7) magic damage and is bound for 2 seconds. The second target takes 50% of the damage and is only bound for 1 second. This is a skill shot.
Cost 60/75/90/105/120 Mana

Note: Snare prevents enemy movement but does NOT prevent the enemy from attacking or using their skills.

Prismatic Barrier

Lux throws her wand to the target location and back, protecting herself and all allied champions it touches from 50/75/100/125/150 (+0.35) damage for 3 seconds.
Cost 60/60/60/60/60 Mana

Note: This shield acts like a boomerang and will shield allies and herself twice, however the shield does not stack over itself and instead refreshes.
Tips

  • This is best used when your team is fighting and you are able to shield them all at once
  • You can use this to block damage from towers
  • It is great for blocking moves like Zilean’s Timebomb
  • You can save fleeing allies who are running from enemies
  • This skill will follow you on its return trip
  • This ability can score you assist in team fights

Lucent Singularity

Creates a zone that slows enemy units by 20/24/28/32/36% (zone lasts 5 seconds). Can be detonated to damage enemies in the area for 60/105/150/195/240 (+0.6) magic damage.
Cost 70/85/100/115/130 Mana
Finales Funkeln

After a short delay, Lux fires a stream of light in front of her, dealing 300/400/500 (+0.85) to all enemy units in the area. In addition, ignites the target for Illumination damage if under its effect, and refreshes the Illumination debuff.
Cost 100/150/200 Mana

Note: Although not an auto attack, this laser still triggers Lux’s passive. Meaning at level 6 you will deal an extra 70 magic damage if you had hit an enemy with Light Binding or Lucent Singularity.

Recommended Summoner spells:
1) Ghost – REQUIRED. In order to maximize the survivability of Lux, the summoner spell ghost is absolutely a must. Ghost is one of the most powerful summoner spells in the game as it is an effective get out of jail free card for gank attempts. When coupled with Lux’s naturally long range and disabling abilities she can be very difficulty for the enemies to catch. Your goal is to not die. Ghost best accomplishes that.
2) Flash – REQUIRED. Ghost is down, all of your abilities are on cooldown. You have an enemy tryndamere closing in on your fast while a large sword of crit heading right for your face. What do your do?!?!

Flash is the next must for Lux. A simple flash can prevent a heavy hitting Trynd or other champion from getting an easy kill and stripping a third of your soulstealer stacks from you.
Recommended Item Build:
3 Doron’s Rings (300 HP, 15 mana/5, 45 ap) Whats not to like?
Soulstealer (AP + possible cooldown reduction)
Sorcerer’s Shoes(2 Movespeed, 20 magic pen)
Rabadon’s Deathcap (MASSIVE AP)

Why this build works: This build focuses on Lux’s large aoe damage capability while giving her the shield early to help score assists on her soulstealer. Lux’s “e” ability is chosen first do to its larger range and capability to hit multiple targets. Unlike her q spell, it can slow units and attack more than two. It is also a more forgiving skillshot to land.

A popular spell order for ganks is q,e,r,e where you place your e after your q but blow it up after the ulti lands.

CORE BUILD

Doron’s Ring x 3

Soulstealer

Boots of Sorcery

Rabadon’s Deathcap

(After That I start replacing the Doron Rings with items such as Rylias Crystal Scepter or just straight Large Rods (80 AP))

—Consumables—

Elixir of Brilliance

10000x Health Potion

How to play:
1) Doron’s Ring

Grab a Doron’s Ring and head to bot lane. You are a very powerful support champion early on. You can bind and slow enemy champions while still doing very good damage. Mid is ok, but by yourself it is fairly easy to get dead zoned out of range of the creeps. Get your “e” ability and harass the enemy champs with it. It has very long range, abuse this. Once you get enough money for boots port back and grab them along with a few potions. Continue laning and farming up as must money as possible. You can easily last hit by hitting range creep with your aoe “e” ability and then following it up with an auto attack.

2) Doron’s Ring + Soulstealer.

When you have gotten enough cash for a soulstealer and possibly for another Doron’s Ring, port back and grab them. The extra Doron’s Ring helps give Lux some more hp to prevent dieing. Now it is time to start hero killing. Use your ult whenever you can score an assist or kill on enemy champion. The long range of her ult allows you to participate in at least assisting in just about every kill that happens on the map. Play defensive in your positioning. Always have a way out.

3) Sorcerer’s Shoes + Doron’s Ring

This is a relatively easy buy. The Sorcerer’s shoes will put you at 30 magic pen which essentially makes your spells do true damage to champions who do not use magic resist. This forces those Ashe and tristana players to buy more defensive items since if they don’t you will be able to just farm them. The Doron’s Ring will put you in the 1500-1800 hp end game. It is not an extremely high number by any means, but it is a doable one.

4)Rabadon’s Deathcap

Your final item for this build is a Rabadon’s Deathcap. The Rabadon’s Deathcap increases your damage a ton! By the time you finish this item you should be between 12 and 20 stacks and hitting 400 ap. Your e ability will one hit entire creep waves and your ulti will rip half of the hp off of an enemy Ashe. Play very aggresive and abuse your range. Keep in mind that your shield ability now will shield allies for up to about 600 damage. Make sure to fire it out in teamfights since it will absorbe a ton of damage and also line you up for a ton of assists. (Great for keeping the soulstealer topped off.)

Random Tips:

  1. Throwing your shield on an ally will grant you an assist kill if they get the killing blow on a champion. Using this strategy in team fights can grant you many stacks on your soulstealer, even if you didn’t attack all the other champions.
  2. If your target is already ignited from Lux’s passive, using her ulti on the enemy will consume the ignite charge and deal the extra damage to the champion. Keep this in mind in your spell rotation by making sure your target is marked with her ignited debuff before using her ulti.
  3. If an enemy is positioned near a wall, cast her ulti parallel to the wall, leaving a sliver of area next to the wall that the ulti will not hit. The enemy will instinctively run away from the wall and the sliver of uncovered area will give you a better chance of landing the spell should they try to dodge it.
  4. The second snare provided by her q spell will extend beyond its natural range if you land the primary portion of the snare right on the border of the spell range.
  5. The range on her ulti extends by about the width of a turret beyond the circle that describes its range.
  6. Lux’s “e” ability is able to scope out brush before entering.
  7. Use potions often!
  8. Lux can easily hit 40% Cooldown reduction using a combination of blue cd runes, blue buff, blue elixir, cd masteries, and a maxed Soulstealer.

Conclusion:

This build has been tested in low, middle, and a single instance of a mixed middle/high level game and was found to be effective in all tiers of gameplay in which it has been tested. Thanks for reading this guide!

  1. I have 2 questions for you Gamedude:
You said lux is good if she goes bot because she is an excellent support champion, what are good champions that she is strong with? What champions should you avoid?

    • Hey Kevin,

Lux is extremely strong when playing with other aggressive lane type champions. Ap sion, Kennen, Blitzcrank, singed are all good choices as you can use your disables and high damage to zone the other team out of experience range.

Champions that I refuse to lane with are Gangplank (very useless in damage early game), Sivir (too much pushy to zone the other team), Soraka (not enough damage), Mordekaiser (too much push).

Lux is strong against champions that have lower magic resist. Ashe, Kogmaw, and the like are very susceptible to her burst. Champions with greater magic resist such as Garen and Galio are harder to lane against as the damage you do to them will be reduced dramatically.

      Thanks for the question!
